REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 33684. Bbl. 5 1/2". U.S. Army Model of 1909 double action revolver mfg. by Colt. Left side of the bbl. is marked "COLT D.A. 45", with Colt's 2-line address and patent information marked across the top, and "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" across the bottom. Left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt over a stylized "C" logo. Right side of the frame is marked with "R.A.C." (Rinaldo A. Carr) (repeated on rear face of cyl.) and "FB" (Major Frank Baker) inspector proofs. Major metal components exhibit what is possibly an arsenal reapplied dull blue finish, with the trigger and rear strap of hammer exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece smooth varnished wood grips and features a lanyard swivel and ring on the butt. Clipped blade front sight with frame U-notch rear sight. Matching numbers are present on the frame and cyl. crane. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their dull reapplied blue finish, showing areas of wear and thinning fading to gray patina, scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation and pitting, as well as scattered spots of light to mild pitting beneath the finish. Trigger and hammer retain fair amounts of nitre bluing. Bore exhibits consistent mild pitting and scattered spots/small patches of moderate pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Norm Greenberg Collection. (25-4175/MLW). CURIO. $500-800.
