Cal. 45 Colt. S# 41509. Bbl. 5 1/2". U.S. Model of 1909 double action revolver mfg. by Colt in 1911. Left side of the bbl. is marked "COLT D.A. 45", with Colt's 2-line mfg. and patent information marked across the top, and "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" marked on the underside. Left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt logo, intertwined with a stylized "C", with "U.S./ ARMY/ MODEL/ 1909/ No/ 41/ 509" marked on the butt. Right side of the frame is marked with an "R.A.C." (Rinaldo A. Carr) inspector proof (repeated on underside of bbl. and rear of cyl.) with "FB" (Major Frank Baker) marked towards the top strap. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with the trigger, frame screws, and top strap of the hammer exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Sides of hammer are polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with sanded and refinished 2-piece plain wood grips, and features a lanyard swivel and ring on the butt. Standard fixed clipped blade front sight and "U" frame notched rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame (both on the butt and interior), cyl. crane, as well as the cyl. latch. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that are fading to gray and brown patinas, scattered superficial handling marks, as well as some scattered spots of light surface oxidation overall. Nitre blue parts show wear fading to gray patina, especially on contact points, with vibrant nitre bluing remaining in protected areas. Sides of the hammer exhibit spots and patches of age related discoloration. Bore is bright, exhibiting scattered spots of light to mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show scattered superficial marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. (25-4669/MLW). CURIO. $400-800.
