Cal. 45 Colt. S# 11794. Bbl. 7 1/2". 6 Shot fluted cyl. Bullseye ejector head. Left side of frame stamped "U.S.". 1 Piece walnut grip. Frame, cyl. & grip straps have matching numbers. Inspectors marked "A" (Ainsworth) is found on bbl. & trigger guard. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: accompanied by a letter from H Sterling Fenn, co-author of Colt Cavalry & Artillery Models, date May 21, 2003. Letter confirms features & military markings of revolver & states "the well worn nickel-plating was applied after US service". Letter further states "delivered to the Government Inspector at the Colt factory and shipped on July 22, 1874". CONDITION: metal finish has faded to mottled gray retaining dull nickel finish on parts of cyl. & protected areas of frame & grip straps. Areas of pitting are found throughout the revolver w/ sm. dents on bottom of bbl. Grips are heavily sanded & undersized having age darkened appearance having chips at heel. Bore retains lightly worn rifling showing some very light pitting. (01-18879/DS). ANTIQUE. $3,500-5,500.
