MUSKET BY BARNETT. Cal. 75. NSN. Bbl. 28". Overall length 43". Front sight doubles as a bayonet lug & there is no rear sight. Barrel has various proofs near the left side of the breech. Lock is boldly marked "BARNETT" in front of the reinforced cock and below the pan. Brass trigger guard, buttplate, rounded sideplate, ramrod thimbles, entry thimble, & nosecap. The buttcap is engraved "6" on the top. Walnut stock with pinned barrel. Iron ramrod. Musket comes with correct bayonet measuring 21 3/4" with a 17" blade & a 3 7/8" socket. This is not a military musket as indicated by the lack of governmental markings. It could have been made for a private entity such as the East India Company or the Hudson Bay Company. It is more likely that it was made for a private armed force or a commercial sailing vessel. CONDITION: barrel has a dark overall patina. Lock has a medium gray patina and holds both full & half cock. Brass has a mellow mustard patina. Stock has a tight crack extending from near the lock 7" up the barrel channel. Very good bore. (01-21067/BF). $3,000-5,000.
