JOHN MILES. Cal. 69. NSN. Bbl. 43 7/8" held by 3 spring retained bands stamped w/ cartouche of "P" & liberty cap along w/ "CP" at breech end (pre 1799). Lock w/ chamfered flat plate stamped "MILES" vertically behind cock & "CP". Lock features reinforced beveled cock, integral pan, bridled frizzen & feather spring w/ spear finial. American walnut stock is iron mounted w/ mts. resembling those found on Charleville muskets. Left side of stock stamped "CP" & the initials "IDH" are hand carved on the right side of comb. CONDITION: fair to good. Bbl. & bands are mostly brown patina w/ some cleaning highlights. Lock is cleaned to silver gray & brown. Stock has old oil refinish. Sling loops are missing. What appears to be original ramrod is present. Fair dark bore. Lock is operable. Frizzen resteeled. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor. (01-20489/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
