Cal. 6.5 Wooden Training Ammo. S# 305. Bbl.16". The Japanese Machine Gun Trainer was designed to help new students understand their perspective role as part of an MG Team, without the necessity of holding classes only at a traditional shooting range. While teaching basics such as handling, feeding, transitioning, A-gunning, etc, it was built to fire a low powered wooden projectile, therefore eliminating the necessity for a backstop & impact area that may not have been accessible on location. It is a simple mag fed, blowback operated, open bolt design, very similar in function to many pistol caliber submachine guns. It was designed to resemble something in between the Japanese model 11, w/ its 2-step, heavily fluted barrel, & a Type 96 w/ similar grip, stock & bipod placement as well as front & rear sights. The safety is located on the left side of the trigger housing and swings down to block your finger from squeezing the trigger when employed. There is no selector, as all examples we/re familiar with are full auto only. The carry handle in front of the top mounted, single column magazine is very similar to that on the Type 96. Barrels were usually smooth, devoid of rifling, to accommodate the wooden projectiles used for training. Several parts match the receiver number "305" including end-cap, mag well, bipod & takedown pin lever. While these training rifles are starting to become a little more visible, this one has the original magazine, which is almost always absent. There are several variations of these trainers, w/ subtle differences between them, this version utilizes a quick change mag release, a simple spring loaded, ball detent device in place of the typical mag release. It is VERY important to note that these were designed to fire low powered wooden bullets only, and should NEVER be used w/ standard live ammunition, which would ensure catastrophic results. MAGS: 1 matching numbered, original, single column, (appearing to hold between 15-20 rounds?). CONDITION: Original finish still heavily remains, thinning in some areas, joined by an appropriate patina throughout. Wooden furniture remains very nice, sporting some period typical impressions and some small chips in bottom of pistol grip. Barrel has been plugged and welded to deactivate but it appears it was done gently without ruining all surrounding pieces. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT DEWAT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. REGISTERED DEWAT, FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-1629/JZ). CURIO CLASS III. $3,500-5,500.
