ENFIELD RIFLED MUSKET. Cal. 577. S# 4420. Standard pattern 1853 Enfield rifled musket, the most prolific longarm weapon of the Confederate infantryman during the Civil War. Lock marked: "1861 / L. A. Co." forward of hammer, and rear of hammer with a crown and "VR". Stock has round cartouche which reads "London Armory Company / 1861". "4420" engraved on buttplate tang. Accompanied by period brown leather sling and chained original nipple protector. CONDITION: good to very good overall, appears complete & original including sling swivels & rear sight which are often missing. Stock has erosion, makers cartouche is visible in outline only. Mechanics fine, clear smooth bore with worn rifling. (01-26902/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
