This fine Confederate bayonet fits into the Hardin classification for type 2 variation No. 1. The bayonet measures 25 5/8” overall with a 20 9/16” blade. The blade has a 13” unstopped fuller. The solid brass hilt measures 4 7/8” and has 15 horizontal grooves at the grip. Typical flattened Boyle & Gamble bird’s head pommel with a broken spring & button. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, lightly mottled patina. Hilt has a very pleasing deep mustard patina. The button & spring are nearly completely missing, but the retention screw is intact.
