A good example of a Civil War period cap box that is likely of Confederate origin. The box has a very squarish outer flap and, at one time, had a sewn closing strap that has likely been gone since the war. The inner flap has no assembly marks and is detached from the box, but present. The body of the box is completely sewn, as are the belt loops on the back. The finial is very oddly shaped brass and undersized. CONDITION: the box is quite flaked but very solid. The inner flap is severely flaked and detached, as stated. Both belt loops are intact. (02-20117/BF). $400-700.
