"Dog River" was a term coined by pioneer Confederate authority William Albaugh, he noted that every Confederate state had a Dog River and that an early soldier's letter stated that he had just picked up a saber from the Dog River Factory and the term is used to denote "unknown Confederate manufacture". 34" Unstopped fuller blade with rounded top edge which is a characteristic of the largest Virginia and North Carolina makers. Brass 1860 style branched hilt, leather grip with single strand iron wire wrap. CONDITION: good to very good overall, blade cleaned, gray patina, staining and light pitting. Brass cleaned and artificially patinaed. Grip is nicely rewrapped, and new protective washer added. (02-19161/JS). $1,200-1,800.
