WOOD SCABBARD. 24” overall, 18.5” double edged blade, attributed to Macon Georgia often with ribbed grip. I am not sure where these were made but no doubt in deep South. The pinned wood slab wood scabbard is very similar in construction to the cavalry scabbards made late war by Hammond Marshall in Atlanta including the sheet iron mounts. This sword had been painted silver, almost all worn off the grip, but scabbard still covered along with added cloth cover and 2 soldered rings to throat. A good restorer could help this probable postwar theatrically used sword scabbard. The sword itself is about as good as you will find. This sword had a story to tell. CONDITION: sword is very good overall, blade retains some original armory finished surface, staining, light pitting, dulled edges, scabbard sound, drag unsoldered and loose, one slab cracked through. (02-19099/JS). $1,500-2,000.
