Overall length: 42". Blade length: 34 1/4". A wonderful, untouched Haiman cavalry saber reportedly found in a Georgia barn. Louis Haiman & Brother produced swords, bayonets & cutlasses from their armory in Columbus, GA. The armory started prior to the war as a tin shop where the native Prussians practiced their trade. This example has a plain blade w/ a single, lg. unstopped fuller. Heavy, 2 branch, coppery brass hilt. The 2 branches join a plain knuckle bow that enters a standard plain pommel cap. The leather grip is wrapped w/ a single brass wire. Heavy iron scabbard w/ brass scabbard rings & iron suspension loops.
CONDITION: sword has a dark, mottled patina w/ evidence of cleaned pitting. There are a few scattered edge nicks. Hilt is very solid & undamaged. Leather is approx. 70%. Wire is complete. Scabbard is heavily oxidized but remains solid & undamaged. (02-17532/BF). $2,600-3,200.
