ATTRIBUTED TO KG&K, COLUMBIA SOUTH CAROLINA. This exact sword pictured & described from Don Ball collection on page 148 (plate 195) of Don Furr’s 1999 text “American Swords & Maker’s Marks”. It is shown with same scabbard with sword hook attached to top mount. 31” unstopped fuller blade, branched flat guard, brass ferrule, fancy triple wire has sprung but mostly intact. Furr explains that hilt “looks much like a Marshall hilt but is smaller in size” This hilt is seen on Atlanta made swords by Hammond Marshall and this fancy grip wrap is seen on a few swords by Nashville Plow Works. It is always difficult to positively ID makers on Confederate swords unless they are marked. Regardless, this is honest survivor that saw service. CONDITION: sword is good to very good overall, “as found”, gray smooth blade, stained, about ½” tip broken, guard well patinaed, bent, guard loose due to missing protective washer, 2 strands of wire broken but still wound around grip. The scabbard is restored. (02-19173/JS). $3,000-4,000.
