26" Overall, 21" dbl. edged blade, solid cast fish scale grip w/ thin rolled edge sheet brass guard. Excavated examples of this cutlass are known from Selma, Alabama & may be products of Selma arsenal or when Leech & Rigdon had short span operating in Selma after fall of Columbus, Mississippi arsenal. Regardless of who made these cutlasses, they are found in several configurations, always in the deep South. CONDITION: good overall, blade has iron patina w/ pitting & nicks in cutting edge. Guard is missing quillon which is broken off, rest of hilt has a relatively smooth mixed mustard patina. (02-15791/JS). $1,500-2,500.
