RIGDON, COLUMBUS MISSISSIPPI. 23.5" overall, 17.5" double-edged blade, 2.25" wide, .28" thick. This massive short sword with CS letters at opposite ends of guard has been highly reproduced due to its popularity and unique design. This example has impeccable surfaces and great patina. The C&S letters are so similar to those on known Leech & Rigdon products, it is fair to assume they made the sword and were among the largest deep South sword manufacturers. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: receipt from Powder Horn Antiques, July 29, 1999. CONDITION: Very good overall, uncleaned with mixed mustard to chocolate colored patina to brass. PROVENANCE: David Berenson estate collection 1999. (02-27302/JS). $3,000-4,000.
