CONFEDERATE SOUTH CAROLINA PALMETTO ARMORY MODEL 1842 MUSKET. NSN. Cal. 69. 42" bbl. Classic brass mounted model 1842 William Glaze, Columbia, SC state contract manufactured musket, many saw hard use in Civil War. The markings on breech of include:"P" / "V" / "Palmetto Tree Proof" and "Wm.GLAZE&CO." which are well stamped and discernible, as is "S.C" on the barrel tang which is seen only on a small percentage of these arms. Lock has well struck "Bushy Tree" insignia with "PALMETTO ARMORY / S*C" in a circle around a Palmetto Tree and "Columbia / S.C.1852" at tail. CONDITION: good w/ cleaned metal surfaces & mild pitting, complete and original. Bbl & lock are gray/bright, re-oiled stock is well fit w/ scattered dents and dings, mechanically fine, smooth clear bore. The 3 brass barrel bands are a unique feature found only on some Palmetto Muskets. PROVENANCE: This is a fine survivor from collection of Dr. Fred Novy who has studied this maker for years and documented many survivors. (01-20904/JS). ANTIQUE. $7,000-9,000.
