RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. NSN. Bbl. 33". Ladder rear sight graduated to 1300yds. Stud type front sight. Rifle marked on left side of receiver "PEABODY'S PART. JULY 22 1862" "MAN'F'D BY PROVIDENCE TOOL CO. PROV., RI.". Butt swivel mortise has steel plate marked "CONN. 1490." Receiver ring & breech block marked on top w/ "S". Bbl. marked on left side in front of receiver "E. E. ? P W". Marked on top w/ "K 2 52". Letter "E" appears on upper & lower bands. Trigger guard action bottom plate. Cleaning rod is present. 2 Band rifle is not equipped w/ sling swivels. Walnut buttstock & forend. CONDITION: unmarked stock set has been cleaned & given a coat of lacquer as a preservative. Cleaning has left a slight loss of wood in inletted areas. Lacquer finish has wear, scuffing & scratches throughout. Notable scattered splotches of white paint on left side of rifle. Right side of buttstock has paper inventory disk. Bright metal parts have been cleaned. Bbl. retains much original blue, but is turning gray w/ notable thinning in area of muzzle due to use of bayonet. Metal has scattered, fine oxidation, handling marks & sm. scratches. Fair, worn bore is turning dark. (01-19349/RW). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
