AOW's IN ORIGINAL HOLSTERS. Cal. 20 Ga. S# 360982 / 360983. 10" Bbl. 2.5" shells only. Manufactured on Sept. 7, 1922. A rare consecutive pair from a total of only 2500 of these first model Ithaca AOWs manufactured before implementing design changes. These guns, regularly referred to as the "Model A" varients were built on the Flues model action. They possess blued 10" barrels in a side by side design w/ a case hardened receiver utilizing duel triggers. The dual barrels were designed to use 2.5" shells & measured approximately 10" in length. Following this first production run, later in 1925, they were redesigned to use 12.2" barrels, chambered for 2.75" shells & marketed as their "Improved Design". Those have earned the unofficial designation of "Model B" among collectors. Ithaca ceased production of the entire project in 1934 when the National Firearms Act of 1934 imposed a prohibitive transfer tax of $200 on each gun to be sold, which was later reduced to a $5 transfer tax in 1960. These factors lead to very low production numbers, making them desirable & rare collectors pieces today. Stocks are checkered hardwood, w/ a unique rear pistol grip design intended to minimize recoil. The receivers are engraved on both sides of the receiver; "Auto & Burglar Gun / Ithaca Gun Co., Ithaca, NY." w/ the familiar Retriever engraving. Receivers are also marked in consecutive numbers "CSJ1744" & "CSJ1745". Each Auto & Burglar is cased in it's fitted holster, each embossed "Auto & Burglar Gun / Made By / Ithaca Gun Company. / Ithaca, N.Y.". Top, sliding tang safeties. Front mounted brass bead. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: early, leather holsters. One light, tan & the other dark, reddish. Each embossed w/ "Auto & Burglar Gun / Made By / Ithaca Gun Company. / Ithaca, N.Y." on top flap. Brass flap hardware w/ sewn belt loop on rear. CONDITION: bluing on barrels enjoy full coverage w/ some light thinning at muzzles & on high sides at chambers. Case colors are approx. 80% w/ some small pops of blue & red. Wood furniture illustrates small dents & impressions typical of soft case storage & light use. Both guns have matching numbered forends, barrels & receivers. Bores are bright & shiny. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT AOW REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-1601/03-1602/JZ). CURIO CLASS III. $7,000 - 11,000.
