HIGH POWER PISTOLS, FIRST VARIATION SALES SAMPLES. In 1969, a Mr. Paul Van Hee was told of Omani interest in FN High Power pistols. Although he was not a representative of FN, sensing a business opportunity, he purchased a number of High Power pistols in 9mmP and marked them in the US with the Omani crest to use as sales samples. The first nine pistols were marked with an error in the Crest; the subsequent 27 pistols had the corrected crest. 1) Cal. 9mmP (9mm Luger). S# T152256. This pistol, with tangent sight, slotted frame, and ring hammer, was finished in black enamel. The left side of the slide was marked with the late two line FN address. The right side of the pistol has the usual Belgian proofs and stacked serial numbers on the barrel, slide, and frame. The lightly stamped Omani crest has the incorrectly rotated dagger whose sheath is pointed to the right. Fitted with black plastic bordered grips, the left panel recessed for the lanyard ring. MAGS: 1 Inglis WWII 13-rd. mag. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: accompanied by a 1960s vintage Browning pouch of black vinyl, lined in red felt, and closed with a brass zipper. CONDITION: 99% of the original painted finish remains with a few small areas of scuffing on the slide release and front strap. Comparable condition grips and magazine. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Hammer release is sluggish, likely due to congealed grease. Near excellent pouch. (25-1629/LMA). 2) Cal. 9mmP. (9mm Luger). S# T152257. This pistol, with tangent sight, round hammer, and slotted frame, was finished in black enamel. MAGS: 1 Inglis WWII 13-rd. mag. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: accompanied by a green FN logo shipping box hand-numbered to pistol with instruction booklet and cleaning rod. Just a few SNs away from the example pictured in "The FN Browning Pistols" book by VanderLinden, 3rd edition, Vol 2, pg 786. CONDITION: 99+% of the original painted finish remains with a few miniscule areas of scuffing on the front strap. Comparable condition grips and magazine. Mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics. Very good box and booklet with shelf wear, tape on lid. PROVENANCE: the Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-1630/LMA). BOTH CURIO. $4,000-6,000.
