This hawk is unsigned but identical signature cast iron and brass inset head. William Buchelle (1895-1977) author of 2 texts on recreating the American long rifle was a master craftsman. His Kentucky rifles and hawks are among the finest recreations made in the 1950s-1970s. Sotheby's cataloged a nearly identical Buchele hawk as "Potawatomi Ceremonial Pipe Tomahawk, circa 1820" in 1990 catalog. This hawk has signature 6.5" cast iron head with brass pipe bowl, 18" maple stem has unique engraved owl and crescent moon silver insets. CONDITION: fine overall. (02-25237/JS). NON-GUN. $1,200-1,800.
