SIGNED LOCK AND BARREL. Cal. 32 rifled bore. NSN. Bbl. 36" full oct. signed “JL” in script. Overall length 51". Very nice, solid curly maple stock. 4 piece patchbox w/ 4 piercings. The percussion lock w/ dbl. set triggers is signed “LONG” in script & the bbl. is initialed “JL”. The incised carving to the rear of the cheekpiece is clear & distinct. 13 silver inlays & brass saddle plate & toeplate. Joseph Long worked in Beaver Creek, PA 1820-1872 & was a prolific maker of percussion rifles. CONDITION: very good to fine overall. Incised carving is clear & sharp. Lock engraving is sharp & legible. The entire gun is in original, unrestored condition. Maple stock well fit w/ hand worn patina, dbl set triggers missing adj. screw & do not cock; mechanics need attention. Discernible rifled bore w/ pitting. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing.
