Cal. 45 rifled bore. NSN. Bbl. 38" full oct. marked in script “JD”. Rifle has an attractive curly maple stock, 4 piece brass patchbox w/ a Philadelphia style finial. Flintlock plate is illegibly marked. Silver saddle plate & a brass toeplate. The last 1" of the brass toeplate, at the toe, is iron. Maker unidentified. CONDITION: stock has usual shrinkage crack at toe of the butt. Some lock parts are contemporary. Trigger guard is loose at the front & there is a crack from the trigger guard to the left & right, as well as evidence of 6 nails being put in, suggesting the gun was cracked through at one point just forward of the lock.
