CARBINE. Cal. 45-70. S# 16971. Standard configuration w/ 22” bbl. w/ tangent & ladder sight dated Model 1873 on breech block & on lock under “U. S. SPRINGFIELD” & eagle. American walnut stock has buttplate w/out trap, flush outline at rear of bbl. & short comb w/ inspectors mark “ESA” on left at rear of saddle ring bar. Checkering on hammer is not bordered. CONDITION: good. Metal has nearly all gray to brown patina w/ scattered pitting & some active rust. Stocks have many marks & dings, appears to have old light oil refinish. Fair bore is lightly pitted throughout. Breech block is loose at hinge & has wobble in locking cam. A scarce unaltered early carbine. (01-17507/MGM123). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
