SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 357 Mag. S# 62542. Bbl. 25 1/8". Martini-Henry Cadet rifle, originally chambered in .310 Cadet for training of Australian military personnel, with this example having later been sporterized and converted to fire .357 Magnum ammunition. The top of the bbl. is marked "MADE BY THE BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO LTD." with the original caliber designation, an Australian proof, as well as the S# marked on the right at the breech. Top flat of the bbl. at the breech is stamped ".357 MAG". Left side of the receiver is marked "MADE BY THE BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO LTD" above the BSA trademark logo, with "COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA/ VIC" above the original S# "25495", with the new S# marked on the top right. Top flat of the receiver is marked with a kangaroo. Plain wood straight grip buttstock, and the forend features custom checkering. Right side of the buttstock is marked "7/11" above a commonwealth cartouche and the original S#. Receiver has been drilled and tapped for a Lyman adj. aperture rear sight. Blade front sight, with the bbl. having been drilled and tapped. CONDITION: very good, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some wear and thinning at and around the taps on then bbl., as well as some scattered superficial handling marks overall. Buttplate exhibits a gray patina overall. Mirror bore, exhibiting strong rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows some scattered marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (24-1920/MLW). MODERN. $300-400.
