ARMS LEVER ACTION PISTOL. Cal. 41. S# 952. Pistol is in standard configuration with blued 6" octagonal barrel, integral spring loaded magazine, fixed notch rear sight, pinched post front sight, engraved panel scene brass frame, custom ivory grips. Made to shoot self-contained "rocket ball" cartridges with powder & primer contained in conical ball. Manufactured between 1855-1857 after formation of Volcanic Arms Company from Smith & Wesson after they sold their interests to investors including Oliver Winchester. Barrel markings: "THE VOLCANIC ARMS CO. / NEW HAVEN CONN / PATENT FEB 14 1854" on top flat. Pistol is contained in custom mahogany casing with engraved eagle on plaque on lid in same style as the 2 eagle panel scenes on frame. CONDITION: very good to fine as refinished, barrel retains much of its thinning browned finish, address marking very good as freshened, silver plated frame & custom engraving applied after manufacture in style of Nimschke, grips sound and well fit, mechanically fine, sharp rifled bore.
