SCHMIDT, HAMBERG. Cal. 8mm Mauser (.318 bore). S# 4367. Bbl. 23 1/2" with integral raised rib having wavy line patterns plus integral ramped base for its axis aligned dovetailed brass bead front sight; 2 leaf express rear sight marked "100" and "200". Portion of barrel in stock is octagon shaped with the balance round. Action is case colored with Crown B and Crown U proofs on left side at front. Fitted for claw mounts with bases having waffle pattern on tops. Top of barrel rib has "MAX SCHMIDT, HAMBERG". Bottom of barrel has Crown BUG proofs, "7.8mm 57", "734" (July 1934), "BOHLER", open 6 pointed star, Crown N nitro proof and matching serial number. Action numbered behind recoil lug. Top of front bridge has matte finish plus engraved decorative border lines throughout action. Floor plate and trigger guard have a small amount of engraving as well as border lines. Double set trigger assembly with German style, stock inletted trigger guard. Walnut stock finely checkered only at round knob grip area plus straight comb with nicely outlined, raised cheekpiece; swivels on barrel and on toe line of stock. Basketweave patterned buttplate with indexed, engraved screws. Bolt is in the white with blued extractor and shroud assembly having Buehler safety. Low sculptured bolt handle with knob flattened on bottom. Bolt body electro engraved "DWM" and "6mm Rem". Bolt will not fully close as its root hits metal of the action. Relief in action and / or root required along with passage in stock for proper function. Striker and double set assembly operates as is. Necessary for alterations and checking of headspace before using; definitely unsafe to use in its present condition. With the bolt condition remedied, it would make a fine German sporter. CONDITION: Other than its bolt deficiency, it is very good overall with some peppery oxidation spots and light marks on barrel. Stock is nicely satin refinished with a chip repair at toe. Near excellent bore. (24-6318/NW). CURIO. $350-500.
