Cal. 7x64mm. NSN. Bbl. 24". Originally mfg. as a Gewehr 98, this example was subsequently reworked into a sporting rifle after the conclusion of World War I. The majority of the original arsenal markings and proofs have been scrubbed, with the left side of the receiver exhibiting commercial proofs, followed by the remnants of the model designation on the receiver wall. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish, with the bolt, bolt handle, cocking piece, trigger assembly, and double set triggers being polished in-the-white. Checkered wood rnd. knob buttstock, with cheekpiece and later grooved steel buttplate. Ramped and brass beaded blade front sight, with contemporary Lyman adj. aperture rear sight. Bolt has been modified into a spoon handle configuration. Trigger guard set screws have been welded in place and cut to accomate the receiver screws. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 1 20-rd. box of Sellier & Bellot 173 grain SPCE ammunition, 1 20-rd. box of Prvi Partizan 7x64mm 140 grain PSP BT ammunition, as well as a RCBS 7x64mm FL die set. CONDITION: metal components retain bountiful amounts of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting few superficial handling marks overall. In-the-white parts exhibit a few areas of pitting, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Mirror bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Stock exhibits scattered scattered marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, with a chip present on the underside of the wrist, at the trigger guard tang. (24-4578/MLW). MODERN. $300-400.
