RIFLE. Cal. 30 WCF. S# 185013. Bbl. 24 1/4". Model 1894 lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1900. Left side of the Model 55 replacement bbl. exhibits standard factory markings denoting the model and cal. designations, with Winchester's mfg. information marked on the right. Top of bbl. is marked with the standard Winchester proof above an encircled "P", indicating a replacement bbl. Upper receiver tang is marked "MODEL 1894/ -WINCHESTER-/ PAT.AUG.21.1894". Replacement bbl., mag. tube, and forearm cap exhibit a blue finish. Model 55 pattern checkered wood forearm and plain wood straight grip buttstock with grooved steel buttplate. Buttstock appears to have been sanded and refinished at one time. Marbles No. 57 blade front sight (bead absent) with factory dovetailed V-notch rear sight. Forward screw on upper receiver tang is an improper brass replacement. CONDITION: receiver, hammer, and lever have faded to a mottled gray patina, exhibiting consistent light pitting overall. Receiver exhibits areas of dark discoloration, with dark mild surface oxidation present on the left. Bbl., mag. tube, and forearm cap retain good amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting a few areas of wear and thinning fading to gray and brown patinas, with scattered spots of light surface oxidation present overall. Very bright bore, exhibiting small scattered spots of light to mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, as well as areas of finish wear, but otherwise remains sound. (26-135/MLW). MODERN. $400-600.
