ENFIELD MUSKET. Cal. 577. S# 3655. Barnett contracted rifle musket originally with 39" London proofed barrel, cut to 26.5" with front sight moved and attached in dovetailed slot near muzzle. Rear sight removed, stock cut back to front band. Most often shortened Civil War muskets were cut by soldier's bringing them home for use as fowler though some cut during war for foragers. This is a rare Confederate "G" Georgia arm that has survived and never restored back to full length as so many have. CONDITION: good as shortened, large "G" worn but readable, CH/I cartouche worn and only faintly discerned border, S# "3855" in distinct Barnett font is clear, all original except added hammer screw & nipple. (01-26884/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
