RIFLE. Cal. 25-06. S# 542503. Bbl. 23 3/4". Model 70 bolt action rifle originally mfg. by Winchester in 1961 and subsequently customized by the late gunsmith, Dale Goens. The top of the replacement bbl. is engraved "made by Dale W. Goens #1032/ for Glen E. Thyssen", with "25 06" marked on the left at the breech. Left side of receiver is marked with the Winchester trademark logo, with the S# marked on the right. Metal components exhibit a professionally reapplied blue finish, with the bolt body having been jeweled. Beautiful, finely figured wood buttstock features fluer-de-lis checkering at the pistol grip and forearm, with a black ebony forearm tip, blued steel skeleton grip cap, as well as an Old English red rubber recoil pad. Bolt knob features 4 checkered panels with light engraved line borders around its circumference. Receiver is mounted with a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x40mm scope featuring a Boone & Crockett reticule. CONDITION: extremely fine, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their professionally reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some mild wear and thinning on the forward end of the floorplate, a few spots of wear on the bolt assembly, as well as a few superficial handling marks overall. Mirror bore, exhibiting what appears to be some very light pitting towards the muzzle, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Stock shows a few minute marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remains excellent overall. Scope retains a clear and sharp optic. An exceptionally fine and attractive example of a Dale Goens customized Winchester Model 70. (24-2030/MLW). MODERN. $2,500-3,500.
