Cal. 450/400, 3 1/4" Nitro Express. S# 3071. (CA 1899). The 28" chopper lump barrels have thick reinforced breech sections and are fitted with full length matted rib, holding one standing, two folding nested leaf express rear sight and gold bead front in raised portion of rib. Unmatted area in front of express sight is engraved "Danl. Frasier & Co." "Gun & Rifle Manufacturers" "4 Leith St Terrace Edinburgh". Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 53 grains cordite and 400 grain bullet. "53" is crossed out and "60" newly stamped. Front part is also stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs for 450-400 3 1/4 at 16.5 tons. A sling eye is soldered to bottom rib. Case hardened boxlock action has distinctive swell to back line and features non automatic safety, pivoting third fastener that engages rib extension, side clips, bushed strikers and double triggers. Action is engraved with Celtic knot borders. "DANl FRASER & Co." is on scrolled ribbon on each side. S# is on trigger guard bow. Tang extends to horn grip cap. Well streaked European walnut, capped pistol grip buttstock measures 15" over Silver type pad and features long slim shadow line right hand cheek piece, drop points and point pattern checkering. A sling eye is set in to toeline. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: STOCK: DAH: 2 5/8". DAC: 1 15/16". CAST: neutral. LOP: 15" WEIGHT: 9 lb. 15 oz. CONDITION: good as mostly refinished, barrels retaining over 90% reblue with some later splotches and thinning. Action retains traces of original case color and is mostly silver to gray. Other parts reblued over some fairly deep pitting on floorplate. Stocks have old oil refinish with many subsequent marks, checkering recut. Work is a bit haphazard. Bores are good to fine, slightly dark in grooves with some erosion at throats. Action is tight, barrels on face. (22-5852/MGM). CURIO. $4,500-6,500.
