DOUBLE RIFLE WITH CASE. Cal. 450-400 3 1/4" NE. S# 3081 (CA 1899). The 27" chopper lump barrels with heavy reinforced breech area are fitted with full length matted rib. Mid portion is swamped forming front sight ramp. Rib is fitted with one standing, two nested leaf express rear sight dovetailed through and silver bead front with flip up porcelain night bead. Rib, in front of rear sight is engraved with marker's name and address. Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 53 grains of cordite and 400 grain bullet as well as London reproofs for 60 grains of cordite. A sling eye is soldered to bottom rib. Case hardened boxlock action with extended back line in usual Fraser fashion, features bolted non automatic safety, pivoting third fastener that engages straight rib extension, bushed strikers, side clips and double triggers with checkered blades. Action is engraved with 80% coverage very well cut small scroll with rose bouquet highlights within small scroll borders. Maker's name is on each side. Top lever with more scroll is engraved "FRASER'S PATENT" around pivot. Floorplate and trigger guard are also blued and scroll engraved. S# is on trigger guard tang which extends to horn grip cap. Finely figured and well marbled European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14 1/2" over original checkered horn buttplate and features shadow line right hand cheekpiece, point pattern checkering, recessed sling eye and fancy vacant gold shield on toeline. Matching long splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: STOCK: DAH: approx. 2 11/16". DAC: approx. 1 15/16". CAST: about 1/2" off. LOP: 14 1/2". WEIGHT: 9 lb. 14 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun is house in what appears to be its original oak and leather case with brass corners. Top is embossed "M.C. DRAPER" interior is lined in burgandy cloth and has dark green leather gold embossed Fraser label in lid as well as a small paper Henry Atkin label. Case contains snap caps, ebony handle striker key (that does not fit), small ebony handled turn screw and another with horn handle. Also in case are three sealed boxes of older Kynoch 450-400 nitro express cartridges loaded with solid bullets in red & yellow boxes. CONDTION: fine with some minor refinishing. Barrel retaining nearly all of a "Best" reblack most likely done at time of reproof. Action retains about 30% original case hardening color, strong where protected and is mostly silver gray with some minor staining. Blued parts retain most of their charcoal blue, loss from normal had wear. Stocks retain most of their original hand rubbed oil finish with a good scattering of marks, two fairly deep on right side of butt. Checkering recut on buttstock. Bores are fine, smooth and shiny with some minor erosion at throat, action is tight, barrels are on face, ejectors are in time. Case leather shows some dark splotches, rubs and is bleaching. Straps missing, handle good, interior cloth is good, dusty, with many rubs and marks. Label is fine to very fine, accessories are good. (22-5831/MGM). CURIO. $8,000-12,000.
