RIFLE. Cal. 38. NSN. Per "American Gunsmiths" by Frank Sellers, David Hudson operated in Napolean, Ohio 1875-1896. Oct. 35" barrel measuring 1.19" across flats. Modern globe front sight (missing post), semi buckhorn rear sight, & additional 5" long staff originally for tang sight welded into a large notch. Percussion lock has "R.B." in scroll & brass shield around nipple. Wedge fastened walnut half stock w/ hardwood ramrod & pewter nose cap. Brass furniture includes finger curl triggerguard, toeplate, crescent buttplate & pierced & segmented patchbox. German silver ornamentation includes wedge escutcheons, spear tips, hearts, half moons & sideplate. CONDITION: barrel & lock has brown patina appearance with pitting around nipple, marks & pinprick corrosion. Stock has heavy varnish with spots of peeling & numerous dings & marks. Good bore with strong rifling. Appears mechanically fine. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Norm Greenberg Collection. (01-27749/MD). ANTIQUE. $700-1,100.
