SUPERB ENGRAVING & PRECIOUS METAL INLAYS BY THE NOTED ALBIN OBILTSCHNIG. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4". S# 1665325. This interesting custom gun probably gun dates to the 1960's given it's racy styling of grip. Built on a Winchester model 12 trap gun with 28" ventilated rib barrel choked full; action is finished in silver gray. Action is covered with truly attractive and wonderfully cut large open shaded acanthus scroll. Highlights and volutes have been polished bright for added depth. This fine work surrounds game scenes which are within flush gold band frames on sides of action. Major subjects are rendered in high relief silver. Foregrounds are relief engraved. Backgrounds are nicely shaded. A pointer points a pair of flushing pheasant on left side and a trio of ducks are settling into a marsh on right. Top of action is finely shaded in stippled skip line pattern. Signature: "Engraving by Albin Obultschnig Ferlach Austria" is above cartridge port on right side. Custom buttstock made of broadly marbled and stump figured European walnut measures 14-1/8" over RH Arnold pad on 3/8" walnut lengthening piece. Very nicely cut skip line checkering in fancy boarder is at grip. Rosewood grip cap is broad and teardrop shaped exhibiting early 60's styling. Matching full target type forend has long extension at rear. CONDITION: very fine as custom finished. Barrel retaining nearly all custom blue with some minor handling marks. Action shows some brightening of French gray on edges. There are few very minor marks in glossy stock finish. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanically fine. (24-2225/MGM). CURIO. $8,000-12,000.
