FLINTLOCK RIFLE. Cal. 40. NSN. Bbl. 42" octagon to multi-faceted forward section having a silver band near the muzzle. Top flat has a 2 5/8" silver inlay marked "D. Priddy". Dennis Priddy, a National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association Hall of Fame gun maker, began building muzzle loading rifles based on historical patterns in 1974. Dovetail mounted blade front sight with red painted brass rear insert and fixed square notch rear sight. Unmarked iron lock with engraved highlights and single line borders. Curled plain trigger. Pin fastened full length stock of nicely grained walnut. Relief carving is found around ramrod channel, comb, top tang, toeline, and patchbox areas. Wooden sliding patchbox cover. Left side of stock has cheekpiece with moulded lower edge bordered by elaborate relief carving. Cheekpiece has a pointed silver oval with floral and borderline engraving. Silver sideplate has highlights of floral engraving. Oval silver wrist plate is engraved "GL". German silver crescent buttplate and toeplate with daisy finial. Line engraved silver nosecap. Lightly engraved German silver finger curl trigger guard. Hardwood ramrod is held by an engraved silver thimble and 2 faceted pipes. CONDITION: rifle has a pleasing antique appearing finish. Bbl. retains 90% dull blue showing edge wear. Lock has fading brown finish showing edge wear. German silver fittings have acquired a pleasing mild tarnish. The stock has lightly worn finish with scattered light marks. Sound lock and trigger. Very good bright bore. (01-27933/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
