WITH STOCK HOLSTER. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 17330. Bbl. 5 1/2". Desirable Model 900 semi-automatic pistol mfg. in Spain by Astra. While outwardly looking nearly identical to Mauser's prolific Model C96, Astra's 900 series line of pistols is significantly different in terms of its mechanical function. This example, mfg. in 1930, is marked ""ASTRA" AUTOMATIC PISTOL CAL 763/ PATENTED JULY.12.1928" on the sideplate. Right side of the frame is marked with Spanish proofs, as well as a Star/C date code. Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with some parts remaining in-the-white. Interior of the frame and sideplate exhibit areas of jeweling. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved wood grips, which have been sanded and refinished at one time. Standard blade front sight, with tangent rear sight graduated from 50-1,000. Nearly all numbers are matching and include the frame, sideplate, locking block, bbl. extension, rear sight assembly, and safety lever, as well as the closure block stop, with remaining serialized parts being mismatched. Grip panels do not match, but match themselves. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: likely contemporary unnumbered wood shoulder stock. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, varying degrees of edge wear, scattered handling marks, as well as scattered areas and/or spots of light surface oxidation and pitting overall. Bbl. exhibits a small concentrated area of moderate pitting on the right side, towards the muzzle. In-the-white parts show age-related discoloration. Trigger retains traces of its original nitre blue finish. Extremely bright bore, exhibiting some light pitting, while retaining well-defined rifling throughout. Grips are very good, showing some superficial marks from handling and storage. Stock shows some scattered marks from handling and storage; otherwise, it remains sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: from the lifelong collection of Bill Peterken. (24-6168/MLW). CURIO. $1,200-2,000.
