SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH STOCK. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 95550. Bbl. 5 1/2". C96 "Red 9" semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser for the Imperial German military during World War I. The top of the faceted chamber is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/ MAUSER/ OBERNDORF A/N", with the S# on the left quarter flat, a double crowned "U" commercial proof on the left flat, as well as with 2 Imperial German acceptance proof on the right side. Right side of the frame is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/ OBERNDORF A NECKAR", with an Imperial German reichsadler marked on the front of the mag. well. Frame and bbl. extension exhibit what appears to be an original or period arsenal reapplied rust blue finish, with the trigger, safety lever, extractor, rear sight slide, and bolt stop exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Bolt is polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved wood red "9" grips. Fixed blade front sight, with tangent rear sight, graduated 50-500. Nearly all numbers are matching and include the frame, floorplate, lock frame, hammer, locking block, bbl. / bbl. extension, as well as the bolt. Bolt stop is numbered "5540" (possibly indicating an arsenal error), with the sear and grips being unnumbered. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: non-matching wood stock holster. Wood parts have been sanded and revarnished, with metal parts exhibiting a reapplied nitre blue finish. CONDITION: excellent, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their period arsenal blue finish, exhibiting some areas of light thinning and wear that shows through to gray patina overall. Grooves on left side of the bbl. extension are noticeable soft. Nitre blue parts show some areas of thinning and wear that show through to gray patina. Near mirror bore, exhibiting some spots of light to mild pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips are very good, showing some superficial marks and minor impressions from handling and storage. Stock is good, as sanded and revarnished, exhibiting scattered superficial marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, as well as some losses to the varnish overall. Metal hardware on stock is very good, with some areas of pitting present beneath the bluing. A very attractive example of an always desirable Mauser C96 "Red 9" semi-automatic pistol. (24-6909/MLW). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
