FOR 1899. This calendar was issued the year after the Spanish-American War & the vignettes depict images that would appear to relate to the Spanish-American War. There are various military images; the main scene is of a soldier standing at attention & a sailor in full period dress w/ draped flags behind. The images at the top are titled “The Astor Battery with Soldiers and Cannon”; the second image is of the “U.S.S. Oregon” & the right side image is of “T. Roosevelt and the 1st USV Cavalry Roughriders”. The calendar also depicts 6 popular military cartridges; 3 on each side. The calendar page for December 1899 is still intact however the other pages have been used up. This beautiful & desirable calendar is professionally framed & matted & what is very important is that beneath the matting is the original metal bands. We have removed the calendar from the frame & created a photograph of both the front & the back & have attached it to the back of the framed calendar so it can be clearly seen that the metal bands are in fact in place beneath the matting. SIZE: 28" x 13 1/2". CONDITION: near excellent & the calendar retains bright colors. A wonderful example. (02-14688). $1,250-1,750.
