TYPE 2 SEMI-AUTO MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 5382285. Bbl. 24". Marked on right side "SA F7791035 1 63". Throat gauges 2.0. Muzzle gauges 1.0. Barrel is inscribed on left side "NM". Bolt, trigger housing & hammer are marked "SA". Operating rod is marked "RA". Gas cylinder is unmarked. High hump gas cylinder lock. The type 2 national match rifles utilized glass bedding & a full compliment of national match parts. The aperture rear sight is marked on the base "NM/2A". Windage knob is marked "NM" & "BME". Adjustable NM aperture. Blade front sight marked on right side "NM / 062". Walnut stock set. Buttstock marked on left side w/ defense acceptance eagle. Marked under grip w/ encircled "P" proof. Marked in barrel channel w/ last four digits of serial number. Stock has been bedded w/ a dark gray compound. The workmanship does not appear to be arsenal quality. The stock has been given a high gloss finish. Front handguard is tight. Rear handguard has approx. 1/16" gap ahead of receiver ring. Tan leather Model 1907 type sling marked MRT. CONDITION: stock has light wear & scattered handling marks. Barrel channel has had a small amount of wood removed at bottom for clearance after finish was finish. Metal retains most of its original dark parkerized finish w/ dark wear. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. PROVENANCE: rifle is accompanied by a CMP research letter dated November 5th, 2020, stating that this rifle was sold April 21st, 1971, as a National Match Garand w/ the reporting depot as Rock Island Arsenal. There is a copy of the Rock Island shipping document & a data sheet "Evolution of National Match Rifles" by Robert W. Seijas. (25-4538/RW). CURIO. $2,250-3,500.
