RIFLE. Cal. 405 WCF. S# 402885B. The Model 1895 in .405 is renowned for being the preferred rifle by Teddy Roosevelt on his African safari. Bbl. 24" tapered rnd. Ramp mounted replacement fiber optic orange front sight, filler in rear dovetail, with No. 21 "Climbin-Lyman" receiver sight. Blue finish with case colored hammer. Ebony tipped schnabel forearm and straight grip walnut stock with Winchester sling eyes. LOP: 13 1/2" over an added solid red London style pad. Unaltered stock retains its widows peak inletting and curve for the original buttplate. Mfg. in 1921. CONDITION: bbl. retains 97% original blue showing light muzzle wear with small spots of light corrosion and handling marks. Receiver blue shows light carry and edge wear with handling marks and spots of flaking. Hammer retains nicely visible case colors on its side. Original wood finish shows light to moderate wear with scattered scratches and marks. Stock has small raised chips behind top tang. Recoil pad is age hardened and cracking with material loss at the toe. Smooth sound mechanics. Bright near excellent bore. (25-2470/DS). CURIO. $4,000-6,000.
