GOLD INLAY ENGRAVING BY TOMMY KAYE WITH SCOPE. Cal. 7mm Rem Mag. S# 64788. The 23" light weight sporter barrel is engraved "Paul Jaeger. Jenkintown PA" on top center. "Custom Built by Dietrich Apel No 45" is on left side. Dietrich worked for his uncle Paul Jaeger from the 50's until he started working for Ruger in Newport, NH. Later he opened his own business, New England Custom Gun Service Ltd. He was also the driving force behind establishing the German Gun Collectors Association. Dietrich died in 2016. Pre-war model 70 action has had safety lever altered and checkered, bolt body engine turned and bolt knob decorated with five checkered panels surrounding star on bottom. Bottom metal has been beautifully engraved with a deep relief central oval scene of giant big horn ram in mountain environment. This attractive decoration is flanked by well cut shaded scroll; all surrounded by gold inlaid borders with scrolls at corners. More scroll and gold are on trigger guard bow. Although most of the metal is blued, the area above and below floorplate scene has been polished to pewter gray giving dramatic contrast to this fine composition. Engraver's signature "KAYE" is on floorplate hinge (Tommy Kaye well known engraver from Yoakum, Texas; who was a founding member of the FEGA). Capped pistol grip stock measures 14" over basket weave brown pad. Stock features Monte Carlo comb, large swept right hand shadow line cheekpiece, ebony forend tip and Kaye engraved steel grip cap gold inlaid with the monogram "MJB". Finely cut checkering is of ovate pattern with foliate highlights and ribbons through diamond fields. Rifle is mounted with Zeiss Diatal 4X scope with cross hair reticle in Redfield rings and bases that have been engraved in gold inlaid matching bottom metal. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: voluminous information about this rifle including original build sheet from Jaeger's with copies of magazine articles and newspapers about Dietrich Apel, Paul Jaeger and their custom rifles. CONDITION: exceptionally fine. Appears unfired since completion with only three or four minor handling marks in wood. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanically fine. Scope is also very fine. (25-1528/MGM). MODERN. $5,000-8,000.
