WITH STOCK. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 17226. Bbl. 5 1/2". Just as Astra and Star made or modified products to sell into China during its extended civil war, so did the company of Beistegui Hermanos, a Spanish firm located in Eibar, Spain. The first of its Broomhandle type pistols was referenced as the Model H. While similar to the Mauser C96 in silhouette, it was made with a rnd. bolt and a different set of internal components. This pistol, one of the early Model Hs, made in 1928, has a 5.5" bbl., fixed front sight, and a slip-in tangent sight uniformly graduated from 50-1000. 2-lug firing pin, and small ring hammer. The full S# was marked on the left bbl. flat, with the late automatic pistol proof marked on the left side of the bbl., bbl. extension, and the left side of the frame in concert with the year code "B" (1928) and the Eibar house proof. The right side of the frame was marked "ETAI" "PISTOL/ CAL 7.63m/m". The full S# was repeated on the back of the frame, with the last few digits on most of the small parts to include the rear sight bar, bolt, bolt stop, hammer, floorplate and all the usual internals. Fitted with matching serrated walnut grips with fuller bases than the Mauser. Lanyard ring present. This exact pistol is pictured in "Astra Firearms & Selected Competitors" by Leonardo M. Antaris on page 689! UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: complete with Beistegui assembled shoulder stock having a characteristic rnd. dome screw to retain the lid latch. Matching assembly # "73" on top of body and mating surface of lid. Correct Beistegui lug that was not removed from the stock. CONDITION: approx. 75-80% original rust blue with balance transitioning between expected wear and patina. Comparable condition small parts whose fire blue is largely faded, the bolt surface having been freshened. Bright bore, light oxidation, well defined rifling. Correct manual mechanics. Good condition stock, oil darkened with numerous handling marks, a 2" crack running through the lid release button. The lug heavily oxidized with a more recently fitted plunger. A rare and seldom offered Spanish Broomhandle ensemble, particularly the stock, under any circumstance. (25-3437/LMA). CURIO. $3,000-5,000.
