LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 38 WCF. S# 312936. Bbl. 24 octagon. Rare & desirable second model chambered in 38 WCF. Rocky Mountain front sight, with sporting rear sight, and long range Vernier tang sight. Blue finish bbl. and mag. tube, with nickel finished action, forearm cap, and crescent steel buttplate. Hammer and lever are case color hardened. XXX fancy walnut forearm and pistol grip stock, with style H factory checkering, having black insert on the underside of the pistol grip. Left inside of the lower tang is marked with the assembly # "2757", followed by wood grade marking "XXX". Top tang channel of stock has matching assembly #. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms record stating "Type: Rifle/ Caliber 38/ Barrel Type: Octagon/ Nickel trims/ Trigger: Plain/ Checkered stock, Pistol grip/ Receiver in warehouse on October 21, 1889/ Shipping from warehouse on October 21, 1889, Order number 4027". This example also includes a 4-piece cleaning rod held in the stock compartment. CONDITION: bbl. and mag. tube blue has largely faded to to brown patina, showing scattered surface freckling and spots of very light pitting. Action and fittings retain 30% nickel finish, with balance flaking to gray and showing spotted surface corrosion. Original wood finish and checkering show light wear, with scattered scratches and marks. Sound mechanics.
