FROM PATROL". The sight size of this superb painting is approx. 41 1/4" x 27 3/4". Its Southwest style frame measures approx. 39" x 52 1/2". This inspiring painting depicts a US Cavalry patrol returning to the fort after several hard days on the trail. Some of the soldiers are wounded. One is attached to a litter being pulled by his horse. A guide in buckskins is leading the column of exhausted soldiers. In the foreground are 3 wives, 2 children, and a dog, anxiously awaiting to see if their loved ones are with the column or lost to the prairie. In the background is a US flag flying over the headquarters of the fort, and beyond the walls rise majestic wind-worn mountains and a ghost of the moon. An exceptionally thought-provoking painting capturing the anguish of both the soldiers returning and their families waiting at the gate. CONDITION: the painting shows no wear or damage, nor does its frame. (02-20184/BF). $6,000-8,000.
