REPEATING RIFLE. Cal. 11.3x51R. S# 1630; the serial number matches on the bbl. and buttplate; the assembly number matches on the receiver and bolt assembly. Bbl. 32.7", dated on left bbl. over the chamber "1876"; the buttplate is dated "1890." These rifles were originally mfg. as bolt-action single-shots, but most had the Vitali 4-rd mag. added after 1888. Tangent rear sight graduated to 1,800 meters. Stud-type front sight. Blade portion of the sight is not present. Walnut stock with faint crown with roundel. Butt swivel is present but has a flattened appearance. Lower band with retaining spring and cleaning rod are not present. CONDITION: stock has an arsenal rework-type finish with wear, staining, and handling marks throughout. Stock has extensive open cracks on the sides between the mag. and rear of the receiver; there is also a large crack behind the receiver tang. Metal, originally in-the-white, is turning gray, developing patina, with light oxidation and scattered fine pitting. Bore is worn with an oxidized appearance. (01-26061/RW). ANTIQUE. $300-400.
