PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 1009a. Bbl. 3 15/16". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol originally mfg. by DWM under contract for the Imperial German military in 1913 and subsequently retained after WWI for police use. The bbl. extension is marked "1913" over the chamber, with a triad of DWM inspector proofs and an Imperial German Reichsadler (reichsadler repeated on top of bbl. and left side of breech block) marked on the right. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo. Metal components exhibit a period (possibly police arsenal) reapplied blue finish overall, with strawed parts having been reheated, likely at a later time. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Left side of bbl. extension is fitted with a Schiwy safety, with the left side of the frame having been cut for a Walther mag. safety, which has been clipped. Right side of frame exhibits a small arsenal proof and circular incision, indicating that this example was returned to the arsenal to be retrofitted with a hold-open latch. All serialized parts are matching in the "exposed" military fashion (several likely renumbered while in police service), and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, toggles, and rear toggle pin. Firing pin is unnumbered. Right grip panel is matching via "09", with the left panel being unnumbered and exhibiting a Mauser Eagle/655 proof. MAGS: x1 plated 8-rd. with unnumbered aluminum plug marked with a Mauser "S/42" proof and Eagle/63 proof. Right side of mag. body appears to be electro-penciled "B.t.g". CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their apparent period reapplied blue finish, exhibiting light to mild edge wear, with scattered spots and small patches of light to mild pitting present overall. Grip straps have largely worn and thinned to a gray patina, exhibiting consistent light to mild pitting. Bore is relatively bright, exhibiting consistent mild to moderate pitting, while retaining good, albeit worn rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some light smoothing, as well as scattered nicks, marks, and small impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. (25-6063/MLW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
