PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 8093d. Bbl. 4". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol originally mfg. by DWM for the German military during World War I, and subsequently reworked after the war for police use. The bbl. extension is marked "1916" over the chamber, with DWM arsenal proofs stamped on the right, which are preceded by a crowned Imperial proof, believed to be a rework or repair marking. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish, with some smaller components including the takedown lever, trigger, safety lever, ejector, exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Frame has been period modified with a Walther pattern safety (which has been clipped), with the bbl. extension exhibiting a Schiwy pattern safety. Stock lug on frame has been ground off. All numbers are matching, including the firing pin and grips. Mag. wood bottom exhibits 2 crossed and lined out S#s, with a matching S# present at the top. Takedown lever retention spring is absent. MAGS: 1 8-rd. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their period arsenal blue finish, exhibiting wear and thinning overall. Grip straps exhibit heavier wear and thinning, showing through to a gray patina. Strawed components retain trace amounts of their finish, exhibiting a gray patina with spots of age related discoloration. Very bright bore, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining fair to good rifling throughout. Grips exhibit some smoothing, with several scattered impressions to the checkering, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Mag. bottom exhibits a repaired crack, with a chip present on the underside of the left "ear". (24-1863/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
