SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 7.65x21mm Parabellum. S# 89804. Bbl. 3 3/4". Model 1923 Commercial "Safe & Loaded" Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by DWM for commercial sales within the United States. Left side of the bbl. extension is marked with a German Crown/N commercial nitro proof, which is also present on the left side of the forward toggle link, and on the underside of the bbl. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Front of the frame is marked with the S# above "GERMANY". Left side of frame is marked "SAFE", with the left side of the extractor being marked "LOADED". Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with the frame having been touched up on the left side at one time. Trigger, takedown lever, mag. release button, and safety lever exhibit a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Dovetailed blade front sight, with fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching in the commercial fashion, and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, bbl., breechblock, and rear toggle link. MAGS: 1 blank wood bottom 8-rd. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning, with scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation and pitting overall. Left side of frame exhibits some pitting beneath the bluing, where it was previously touched up. Strawed parts exhibit varying degrees of wear, with worn areas showing through to gray patina and scattered spots of age related discoloration. Safety lever retains scant traces of its original straw finish. Bore is bright, exhibiting consistent light to mild pitting and some scattered spots of dark pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing, as well as some scattered nicks and marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: the Estate Collection of Charles Wagner.
