MILITARY LUGER SEMI-AUTO PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 1463e. Bbl. 4" w/ serrated fin shaped sight; matching numbered w/ abundant British proofs on bottom. Chamber dated 1911; 13,000 units from S# 1500c to 4825e. 58,000 units mfg. 1910-1913; S# 5000b to 315e utilizing 1913 date. Mfg. w/out stock lug or hold open latch; usually added during 1913 upgrade recall. Front strap unit marked “B. R. S. 1. 170.” indicating Bayerisches Reserve (Bavarian Reserve) Company 1 & firearm number 170. Various British proofs plus Imperial proofs on right front of receiver. Matching numbers throughout in commercial locations to include: receiver, sear, trigger, takedown lever, sideplate, safety lever, safety bar, checkered walnut grips & entire toggle assembly. Grips also have heart shaped symbol on back of each plus “5” on back of left. Strawed sm. parts, GELADEN marked extractor plus appropriate internal areas in the white. This pistol featured on p. 572 of Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess’ The Borchardt & Luger Automatic Pistols. MAGS: 1 good slightly stained, tinplated, 8 rd. mag. w/ wood base numbered 5120e at rear half of base reading front to rear; appears to have very faint (unreadable) proof mark just forward of midpoint. CONDITION: very good appearance w/ slight high point & function wear. Occasional very sm. spots of peppery oxidation. Very good straw colors w/ only a hint of staining. About very good bright bore w/ hint of wear & extremely faint frosting. PROVENANCE: formally of Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess Collection. (22-5647/NW). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
