SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 5472m. Bbl. 3 15/16. P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol originally mfg. by DWM for police use in 7.65x21mm Parabellum. The Weimar police acquired several thousand Luger pistols chambered in 7.65x21mm Parabellum from DWM during the 1920s (as per the restrictions of the Treaty of Versailles), which were subsequently re-barreled to 9x19mm Parabellum and reproofed by the Suhl proof house. This example is marked with an X'd out "7,65" caliber marking over the top of the chamber, with the S# applied above both a vertical Crown/N commercial nitro proof and the aforementioned horizontal Suhl proof house Crown/N proof (also present on the left frame rail and on the left side of the breechblock. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo. Front grip strap is police unit marked "SP.Bn.105.1437." ("105" X'd out), indicating issue to the Schutzpolizei of Bremen. Metal components exhibit an apparent period police arsenal blue finish overall, save for on some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, safety lever, and ejector, which are strawed. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Left side of the bbl. extension is fitted with a Schiwy police safety. All serialized parts are matching (in a combination of both the factory "hidden" commercial style and police arsenal applied "exposed" military style) and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the rear toggle pin. MAGS: x1 matching plated 8-rd. with police numbered wood plug marked "1/ 5472". CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their apparent period police arsenal reapplied blue finish overall, exhibiting some spots and patches of light to mild wear fading to gray patina, some scattered spots of light surface oxidation and pitting, as well as some scattered superficial handling marks overall. Strawed parts retain good amounts of their original finish, exhibiting areas of wear that are fading to gray patina with spotted age related discoloration. Bore is bright, exhibiting consistent light pitting, as well as scattered spots and streaks of an unidentified hardened material, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some light smoothing and a few superficial nicks to the diamonds, but otherwise remain sound. (25-6067/MLW). CURIO. $800-1,400.
